Dear shri We, at shishuvihar, as a part of our organization's educational, social and cultural activities, with the objective of enhancing intellectual, emotional and Spiritual understanding of children, by encouraging them to develop interest in value reading, right at the young age, are in the procees of establishing Bal Pustakalaya in 1200 primary schools of Bhavnagar District.
As a first step of our Bal-Pustakalaya activity; we have created and handed over Bal-Pustakalayas to each of 80 primary schools of Bhavnagar municipal corporation, containing 361 books of Rs.8118/- each in the function held on 22nd June-2009 presided by Shri Sanatbhai Mehta. Former Finance Minister of Gujarat, and renowned thinker, Shri Hasmukhbhai Shah, Former chairman and managing Director, IPCL, Vadodara and Dr. Prafulbhai Shah, pioneer in Bal-Pustakalaya activity in Savarkundala remained present in this programme and supported the idea of inculcating reading habits in children at the school level leading them for becoming responsible future citizens.
Shishuvihar was established before 70 years in Bhavnagar by true Gandhian Shri Manbhai Bhatt, whose commitment to the service of society in various fields proved genuine, authentic and par-excellance. Bal-Pustakalaya activity began with 3 workshops with the teachers of primary schools. Importance of stories at the young age, administration of Bal-Pustakalaya. were discussed. Through survery and a questionnaire, suggestions and views of teachers are collected. In about 450 postcards, addressed to Dadaji Rasikbhai Hemani, children have expresed their response after reading the books which is highly encouraging.
A Story Telling Competition amongst 35000 students was organized at school level, ward level and
city level between 22nd August and 5th Sept-2009, which was sponsored by State Bank of India. The programme got overwhelming response from students, teachers and parents. There was a great sense of participation and overall learning by students through reading and narrating stories.
We anticipate your cooperation and support in our efforts in encouraging students for reading, making friendship with books which in long run will help build healthy society. Based on 90 days experience of utilization of 28880 books by 35000 students in 80 schools, we are extending Bal-Pustakalaya activity into another 200 schools with 62214 children in rural areas of Bhavnagar District, where in the first phase 100 schools of Bhavnagar, Shihor, Vallashipur and Umarala Talukas will be covered.
We have plans to make available colorful and in big font types Panchtantra, Hitopadesh, Akabar-Birbal, Bakor Patel and Stories of Tenaliram along with Education Based Stories from Gijubhai and Torch-bears of Indian culture' and 'Stories of our cultural heritage' to 1100 schools of Bhavnagar District, for which we seek your support.
The name of the donor of each of the Library, worth Rs.8000/- donated to a achool will be displayed at the respective Bal-Pustakalaya. We appeal to you, who through climbing the stairs of primary education in whichever school you studied, to take this opportunity to express your gratitude by sponsoring Bal-Pustakalaya in the respective school or any other school.
